Famous Women and Black American Trading Cards

 

Objective:        To learn about the lives of famous women and black Americans who have made important contributions to our culture and history.

 

Materials:        Encyclopedia and other sources on famous women and black Americans

                        List of famous women and black Americans

                        Alphasmarts for each student

                        Research sheet

                        List of FCA’s (Focus Correction Areas)

                        Trading Card Template set on computer

                       

Procedure:      1. Research a famous woman or black American assigned by teacher.

                        2. Write facts on research sheet

                        3. Turn facts into a paragraph that tells about person’s contributions to our culture and history.

                        4. Use a paragraph template and FCA’s (Type 5)

·         Complete sentences and sentence variety

·         Topic sentence and clincher

·         Richness of details

5. Type rough draft of biography on alpha smart

6. Complete the trading card template on the computer

            (Right side of trading card template)

·         Type the person’s name

·         Insert Picture

·         Symbol to represent the person

(Left side of trading card template)

·         Type person’s name

·         Profession

·         Dates – birth and death

·         Claim to Fame – Paragraph that explains the contributions made by the famous person.

 

Assessment:   Observation of student’s ability to use research skills to complete trading cards and final product.
