AltaVista - Searches can be made to gain access to million of web pages. However, since it is one of the original Internet search engines, unearthing accurate and adequate information is sometimes difficult. Natural language and boolean language searches are possible. It is also possible to search a particular date range.
Google- Offers the largest collection of web pages, over a billion, of any crawler-based search engine.
KartOO- is a metasearch engine with visual display interfaces. When you click on OK, KartOO launches the query to a set of search engines, gathers the results, compiles them and represents them in a series of interactive maps through a proprietary algorithm.
Yahoo- Allows users to submit sites. It is useful for simple searches, browsing and advanced searches. The Search lists generated show subject categories and then a list of web sites. Searching via the categories instead of all of Yahoo is useful and can help limit the search results for the researcher. Financial information, news (CNN, BBC) are also available.
