Calendar of the 2004-2005 Year with 45 day
quarters.
Each student in grade 6 will meet with the
Instructional Technology Specialist for approximately 22 class periods.
During these 22 class periods, students will be assessed
on their keyboarding
skills ; continue practicing
keyboarding; be introduced to
applications that are available to middle school students; be introduced to
online tools and online databases appropriate to middle school students; and
will be enrolled in MassONE.
Daily expectations:
- Students will write a daily
reflections journal and save to their H drive, in an folder they have
created, using a Microsoft Word template.
- For a minimum of 10 minutes, students will practice keyboarding skills by
logging onto Type to Learn.

Keyboarding Skills
By the end of grade 6 students will develop keyboarding skills, with proper
placement of body and hands, and with 80% accuracy, type all letters, spacebar,
right shift, enter, left shift, period (.), apostrophe (‘), !, ?, comma (,),
semicolon (;), quotation marks (“) and hyphen (-) (Type
to Learn - complete Lesson 16).
Applications
for Middle School Students
Use
of computers and peripherals
- Identify
the components of a computer system, understand their functions, and use
appropriate terminology when speaking about them (e.g. operating system,
hard drive, memory, window). Classwork
for students.
- Identify
and use basic features of computer operating system (e.g. Start Menu to open
programs and documents; view menu in windows to select “details” to
access information on the size and format of a file.) Overview

- Save
a file to the h-drive and external storage spaces (e.g. flash or floppy
disk, CD Rom, VES hard drive); create and name files, folders and subfolders
without using punctuation in the names; create a file system to save files
in a topical manner.
